Café Luxembourg near Lincoln Center, New York

Saturday 15 January

This was the dinner celebrating our 20th anniversary, to which we invited as many of the original participants as still live in the area. Laurie, who did some of the organizing and suggested the restaurant, unfortunately got sick and couldn't make it; and Karen, Bill, Elisa, and Ted had other commitments. But Brian (our best man) and Catherine, Anita, Janet, and Marian joined Holt and Barbara at one table, and the family (Andi our matron of honor, Joel, Rob, Chay, Michael, and little Zephyr) took the other. Wish they had placed them nearer to one another, but what can you do?

We ate magnificent grilled octopus salad and six Island Creek oysters for appetizers; and then went on to main courses of a nicely-done duck breast with duck confit and vegetables, and a so-so dish of diver scallops. Then some of us continued on to The Metropolitan Opera, where we got married 20 years ago. Rigoletto was the evening performance, which was not quite the celebratory mood of our own wedding opera, The Magic Flute; but we had a wonderful time. Thanks, everyone, for coming out for the occasion.
