Suteishi near South Street Seaport, New York

Friday 14 January

The celebration started with a champagne toast courtesy of Lee, who was best man for Joel 40 years ago, while Barbara was maid of honor to Andi. We looked at the photos, and couldn't believe how young we all were.

A block away from Andi and Joel's apartment is a hot-looking sushi restaurant called Suteishi. It's one of Andi and Joel's go-to places for good food nearby.

We had hot & crispy shrimp with spicy mayonnaise; Suteishi Pearl (a roll of fried oysters, cucumber, spicy mayo, kani on top); filet mignon with ginger & garlic sauce cooked on hot rocks (a sort of table hibachi); grilled eggplant with sweet miso; and premium toro (fat tuna belly) at $10 a slice! Pricey, but then it's in New York, and you can't beat the convenience.
