Las Brisas, Lubbock

Friday 23 May
Today Miles and Jo Linn kindly drove us up to Lubbock, where her daughter Jenny and Jenny's husband Luke put us up in their amazing house (a work in progress).  When we asked them about a place to have a good ol' Texas steak, they recommended the nearby Las Brisas.

You hear that everything is bigger in Texas, and that was true of the prices at Las Brisas.  For example, our wine, Terrazas de los Andes "Altos del Plata" 2012 Malbec, was a bargain: marked up only 380% rather than 400%.

We forewent the various eye-watering add-ons ($7 for a baked potato?), but eventually got some good steaks: a 14-ounce New York strip and the 16-ounce ribeye pictured here, each well-crusted with pepper and salt, and swimming with butter.  Steaks came with nothing but asparagus, but that was all we needed...unless we took out a new mortgage.
