High Table with Melanie and Sam

Wednesday 11 June
A visit to the Parker/Burrell residence at Oxford is not complete without a trip to Christ Church High Table.  So after Holt led his ancient sex seminar, and went to the yearly drinks party that opened the door between Christ Church and Corpus Christi (to commemorate King Charles I's passage to visit Henrietta Maria), we met in the SCR and took Melanie and Sam up the stone spiral to High Table.

Dinner started with gazpacho; though it had little of the proper Spanish tang of vinegar, as you can see, it stood proud with a little tower of guacamole topped with prawn mayonnaise in the center.

Next came poached salmon escalope, rather bland despite its black caviar beurre blanc, on tagliatelle, topped with asparagus and shredded cucumber.

For once, both courses came with the same white wine, a Domaine Faiveley 2010.

And we ended with a showy Pavlova with banana and mascarpone, on crème anglaise (i.e. custard), topped with passion fruit curd.
Quite a creditable showing, though a bit timid on the flavoring.  And the presentation was as stunning as ever.
