Friday 3 January
Having survived the flight, found
the proper bus to Oxford, gotten off it at Christ Church, picked up the keys to
our grace-and-favour flat, taken a taxi there, purchased some necessaries, and napped
a bit, we were ready to start our stay with some good old pub grub for dinner.
The Royal Oak did the necessary,
with its deal of feeding and beering two people for 20 pounds (yes, that's a
deal in local terms). We had two pints of
Oxford gold ale, a plate of (bland) fish and (good) chips with slightly mashed
peas and tartar sauce, and a beef pie with (bland) mash and (good) peas,
carrots, parsnips and leeks.
It won't win any prizes, but it's good, non-microwaved, straightforward food.
