The Almeida, Islington

Monday 13 January
We took Liz out to the Almeida restaurant after Barbara's talk for the Anglo Israel Archaeological Society, at University College London.
We had had a late (and expensive, and rather disappointing) lunch at the Gilbert Scott Restaurant near the British Library - come on guys, you can't charge 20 pounds for flavorless rabbit pie and not even give your guests a plate for their bread!  See crumby table photo at right.
Now it was even later, but the Almeida was welcoming and mellow.  We just had main courses.  One was three slices of lamb rump with vegetables and odd arancine-like balls of potato in brown crust - structurally amusing, but bland in flavor.  The other, sliced duck breast on a vegetable tagine, with a bit of tangy relish, however, was much more flavorful.

The Almeida is a well-organized restaurant with good service and a quiet setting (and bread plates!), so at the end of the day, we were well satisfied.
