Tas on The Cut

Tuesday 14 January
Having had a late lunch at the V&A, we chose the Turkish restaurant Tas near the Old Vic (where we were about to see Turgenev's "Fortune's Fool") for wine and mezes, as we weren't hungry enough for a full set meal.  It proved to be the perfect combination of light food, comfy chairs, and brisk service, not to mention a decent bottle of their Turkish house white.
Excellent hummus, olives, and bread were already on the table, and we supplemented them with smoky patlican salatasi, enginar (artichoke hearts with carrots, fava beans, tomatoes and garlic), zeytinli ahtapot salatasi (marinated octopus with red onions, olives and coriander), and cute little böreks filled with white cheese and spinach.

That was all we needed before the play, and our Turkish friends should pardon the misplaced dotted "i"s throughout this description.
