Saturday 4 January
One of our worries about living in
Oxford was assuaged today: we don't have to schlep all our purchases home in
carrier bags, because the Co-op Market in Summertown will deliver them if we spend
more than 25 pounds (no problem!) by noon on Saturday. In fact, the groceries beat us home, were rung in by
our nice neighbor Grace, and were waiting for us at our door.
We started our British dinners
with a patriotic British chicken; it looks like all foods here declare their
origin proudly. As instructed by the
package, and coached by a conversion table on the wall, we oven-roasted it for
2 hours, surrounded by sliced onion, carrot, and parsnips; why the latter
stayed rather unyielding, we don't know, but all the rest was juicy, tender,
and tasty.
