Thursday 14 August
No, not a Carl's Jr. ad, nor a
comic book. This is what purists like Barbara think
of anything on a hamburger but fried onions, ketchup, and a bun. But of course, sometimes we need to branch
out a bit.
We started by sizzling some bacon
in a pan, removed it, and used the bacon grease to brown a sliced onion with a
dusting of salt and paprika. Removed
that, and fried a pair of burgers in the same pan.
In the meantime, we toasted four
slices of Holt's homemade bran bread; then took two, added some mayo, and
topped one with coljack (for Holt) and one with blue cheese (for Barbara). Broiled those till they bubbled.
Piled it with the toast and cheese
on the bottom, then ketchup, burger, ketchup, bacon, onions, ketchup, and Holt had sliced tomato
on top of his, while Barbara's went on the side.
It would have been easier to eat
if we'd been able to unhinge our jaws like boa constrictors, and it were an
especially ketchupy gazelle.
