Sunday 27 July
Today we had planned to go out
with our friend Liz to Washington Park to hear the Cincinnati Chamber
Orchestra's free "Back to the 1780s" concert. But the weather websites were making dire
predictions: 100% chance of thunderstorms, especially at 4-6 PM, when the
concert was about to start. So we
decided to give up and have an indoor picnic at our house.
(Just to show how reliable weather
websites are, the skies were only partly cloudy at 4, and the sun even peeked
out soon after; the concert went off without a hitch. You suck, weather channel.)
Anyway, the food was still
excellent. We made up a pair of salads
for bagels: classic whitefish with red onion and mayo, and crab salad with
scallion, red pepper dice, and mayo.
There was also Dave's watermelon and feta salad, and oodles of cold caponata that
Holt made up yesterday.
Liz provided dessert, i.e. peaches
and raspberries seasoned with cardamom, and topped with crème fraîche and
cinnamon sugar. And truly, it was
peachy.
We had a lovely evening, though it
could have used some Mozart.
