Beef Stew and Cauliflower

Tuesday 25 March
Our friend Marian arrived for a visit, and luckily we had bought a cauliflower at the Gloucester Greenmarket that was big enough for three.  Hell, it was big enough for seven, and we only ended up using half of it tonight, by steaming the florets and lightly mashing with butter.

Holt had done up a British braising steak stew in advance, by browning the beef with onions and simmering with red wine and carrots.  Stew and cauliflower proved to be an excellent match.
