Saturday 27 July
Tonight we met our friends Lynne
and Tom at our neighborhood boîte, La
Poste, to get caught up on what we had all been doing over the summer. La Poste's menu doesn't alter much over the
seasons, but they ring a few changes on their sauces and dressings.
So along with a bottle of Revelry merlot,
we shared the seared scallop appetizer (with greenery and a poached egg,
gorgonzola, and croutons); the mussels, this time in coconut sauce with grilled
bread; and the pommes frites with
black garlic aioli.
The long-simmered main dish of the month was
beef shortribs (which needed salt) on mashed potato, with succulent sweetbreads;
even better was "ruby red" trout with tarragon, Israeli couscous, and
asparagus tips.
But we skipped their
usual bread pudding to walk back to our house for bowls of Graeter's chocolate
coconut almond chip ice cream, served with blueberries from Thistlehair Farm
and whipped cream. Oh, and some dessert
wines (Jackson-Triggs VQA Vidal icewine, and Ipsus passito di Pantelleria). At
least the blueberries were seasonal.
