Sunday 23 December
We had Barbara's cousins Sheree
and Eric over for afternoon "tea," which really was miscellaneous seasonal
snacks, accompanied by wine. Holt made
his own rosemary focaccia and left it under a towel in the sun to rise; but it
wasn't long until a curious cat stepped right onto it, so we had to find a
different sunny place where, despite being coveted, it couldn't be curled up in.
Despite the little cat print, the
focaccia came out crisp and delicious, and we served it with toppings of our
own sungold tomato confit, red onion agrodolce, slices of prosciutto, Jungle Jim's burrata (mozzarella filled with cream), olives, and artichoke hearts.
Of course we had to have some
sweets; Sheree brought chocolate chip cupcakes labeled "naughty" or "nice,"
Holt made an apple streusel coffee cake recipe from New Joy, and Harold shared his assistant Connie's cakes, brownies,
fruitcake, gingerbread cookies, and cream soda.
We spent most of the day at the
table, and in the evening, all we had room for was some guacamole with tortilla
chips.
