Saturday 5 July
While we were away in England,
Kathy and Russel were away in Spain, and Julie and her chorus did a singing
tour of Transylvania (!). So tonight we
had a get-together to catch up on all our experiences.
Though it was a spur-of-the-moment
decision, Kathy's meals are always thoughtfully and beautifully composed. We started with a Spanish/international note,
with watermelon-elderflower sangria and little Japanese rice crackers wrapped
in nori.
Then to the table, to a
beautifully marinated and sliced flank steak, served with savory cauliflower cake
(using celery seed instead of caraway) and roasted okra; plus lashings of red wine.
And finally, a light seasonal
finish with local strawberries and cream.
The meal was perfect for the
weather, and made us realize how much we loved being home with our fascinating friends. So thanks, Kathy, and we'll do the cooking
next time!
