Friday 27 June
We wanted to have Priscilla and
her Mom (who is also named Priscilla) over for dinner at least once before we
had to leave. So tonight was the night,
and featured a toast with an unusual New Zealand sparkler, Cottesbrook (Marlborough)
sparkling sauvignon blanc.
We started with mild appetizers of
jarlsberg and stilton cheeses on crackers, and assorted olives; the green
Spanish ones that Barbara had marinated with slices of lemon peel were
particularly popular.
Then we graduated to ample
platters of penne puttanesca,
featuring onions and a shot of lemon juice (as the cartons of tomato puree we
were using were actually too sweet). On
the side was a tossed endive, tomato, and red onion salad.
The guests brought a lovely carrot
cake to have for dessert, so we ended on a sweet note.
