Gaudy and Lamby

Wednesday 23 April
Holt put on his tux and stepped out to Christ Church for the 101 Gaudy, to which Barbara, as a Brasenosian/Wolfsonian rather than a millionaire ChCh donor, was not invited (sob).

While she comforted herself with sliced leftover lamb and a couple of little avocadoes at home, Holt partook of bouillabaisse terrine; seared scallops with charred leek, onion broth, and wild garlic; best end and sweetbreads of lamb with stinging nettle purée, asparagus, morels, and rösti potato; rhubarb and custard; and dessert chocolates and fruit.
With the starter went L'Abeille de Fieuzal Pessac-Léognan 2009; Château Beau-Séjour Bécot grand cru Saint Emilion 1998 with the lamb; Delaforce Corte 1997 with the pudding; and The House Malt (an Islay) with the dessert.

And yet she refrained from striking him when he got home and raved about it, as it was not his fault that The House did not ask The Spouse.
