Our Own Private Olive Garden

Thursday 13 June
We had invited our summer Tytus scholars - Stephanie, Mark, and Hanne - over for an informal meal.  The weather was good enough that (with the help of a few citronella candles) we could start the evening off with wine and snacks out on the back patio.
After that, we came inside, boiled up a pound and a half of penne, and prepared three heated bowls.  One was filled with our home-made red sauce with slivered pepperoni; one with our home-made pesto; and one with our home-made garlic scape pesto.  All we had to do was toss a third of the pasta in each bowl, and serve family-style with plenty of pecorino romano to grate over.
There was also a great big salad of our own garden greens (frisée, red romaine, red summercrisp, and baby bok choy leaves), Roma tomatoes, and a big English cuke, dressed with simple olive oil and white wine vinegar.
An easy, breezy, summer meal - with watermelon, some local bourbon, and chocolates for dessert.
