Metropole, part deux

Friday 12 April
After a spiffing lecture by Katharine, we took her, Eleni, and Duncan out to Metropole, where our previous waiter greeted us as if we were old friends (which by now we were, since we were just here a couple of Tuesdays ago).

For starters, we went with the sweetbreads again, which were even tastier than before.  As was the yellowfin tuna crudo with sliced sugar snap peas, pomegranate seeds, crispy shallots and horseradish.
Our wines were Paso a paso verdejo as before, and for a red, Chateau terrasses de bouey 2011 Bordeaux.  Very good, though still too high a markup.
This time, we tried meaty mains: lamb pastrami with ramps, parsnip puree, and roast endive; and sirloin steak with grilled wild mushrooms, roast fingerling potatoes, and ashed onions.  The pastrami was spice-crusted, and everything had a subtle savor from the open hearth.
And since too much smoke is never enough, we split a smoked chocolate brownie with bourbon, blackberry, and cinnamon for dessert.
So take your guests to Metropole for good food, excellent service, and an elevated quirkitude level.  It may even make them think that Cincinnati is sophisticated.
