Friday 5 April
Liz was celebrating her birthday by
having a group of friends - Aarati, Jeff, and us - over for dinner. She greeted us with "dark and stormies,"
a cocktail made with rum and ginger beer, along with appetizers of cannellini beans
with blue cheese dip on celery, and black olives.
We had brought some Gruet sparkler
d'Albuquerque, with which we toasted the birthday girl. Then we sat down to platters of delicious meatloaf,
broccoli and cauliflower (hey, more brassica), exquisite sweet potato mashed
with cardamom, and eventually a nice Argentinian malbec.
Liz even made a sweet rhubarb
crumble for dessert, and served it with Graeter's vanilla and fresh
strawberries. You couldn't have stuck a
candle in it, we were eating it so fast.
So thanks, Liz, for treating us to a great celebration of your own
birthday. And happy birthday to Karen as well - this decade has got to be the best ever!
