Friday 26 April
Barbara T. has come up from
Nashville for a spring visit and a stint in the library, so her hosts, Kathleen
and Steve, had Lynne, Tom, and us over for an informal cookout. It was the first evening that was nice enough
to sit out on the deck, have a glass of wine, and eat root vegetable chips and pita
crisps (seasoned by Kathleen!) dipped in hummus, while Steve worked the
charcoal grill.
Then we went inside to feast on about
six types of Kroger Bros. sausages, including chicken basil, merguez, a boudin-style
with rice, and several other selections.
Side dishes were Steve's famous cole slaw with cilantro, and roasted
yellow squash and zucchini with shallots. Made us feel like we were eating healthy, as well as delicious, food.
The meal got a summery finish with
Steve's homemade salted caramel ice cream, and Dojo's lemon cardamom gelato. We look forward to many more such pleasant
evenings with friends in the spring and summer.
