Our kind hostess at the Palace
Augubio, Iris, not only drove us to the airport at 5:30 AM, but gave us
sandwiches on fresh-baked bread for the road.
We had them with a beer in the Munich airport at midday, before boarding
our flight for Newark.
Lufthansa's food was just
marginally better on the way back home than it had been on the way out; the
chicken breast and pasta actually had some texture and flavor, and the beef and
limp stringbeans were not overly obnoxious.
When we arrived in Newark,
however, we were informed that all flights to Cincinnati had been
cancelled. Luckily, we were able to call
Andi and Joel, and they dropped everything, drove out, and picked us up within
the hour. So our evening meal was wine
and New York bagels out of their fridge, and we were delighted.
