Wednesday 14 January
Our department gathered at the
Queen City Club downtown, to meet and converse with the trustees who make so
many of our activities possible. Though
we've met one or two of them occasionally before, this is the first time we've
had such a gathering, with all of them and all of us, in the twenty-plus years we came to Cincinnati.
We started with drinks from the
obliging bartender, while Aristotle contemplating a bust of Homer contemplated
the bar as well. The wines included a
nice Sonoma sparkler, Gloria Ferrer.
After mingling, sipping, and
conversing, everyone sat down, introduced ourselves, and spoke about what we
did and what our interests were. Then we
turned to the hot buffet, which offered your choice of salmon fillets in sauce,
savory beef in demiglace with onions and mushrooms, vegetable lasagne, green
beans, rice, and green salad.
The
meal ended with coffee and a platter of excellent cookies, fresh and soft,
including white chocolate chips and coconut macaroons. Nobody was looking as we smuggled one or two
out. So for several reasons, the
trustees' dinner was a smashing success.
